After flying drones as a hobby for years, I completed my ground school and flight skills test for my combined PfCO / GVG / A2CofC with Flyby Technology in September 2020.
Obviously, with such a massive investment, I shopped around for the best NQE (or RAE – Recognised Assessment Entity going forward). Although more expensive than other options, speaking to Jon Parker on the phone for half an hour settled it for me. The Flyby Family is something I wanted to be a part of. The practices, principles and procedures they believe in were exactly how I wanted to run my own drone operation.
The training (over Zoom) was lead by Kevin Dennington who has 20 years training experience and however many more years flying experience. Rather than ‘death by PowerPoint‘, it was a few hours every evening of enjoying anecdotes and stories and somehow absorbing the huge amount of information that is required to become a CAA approved pilot without even thinking about it. In the rare event that any of us didn’t understand something, Kevin would stop and answer any questions in detail.
With such good training, I obviously now hold my PfCO (Permission for Commercial Operations), GVC (General Visual Line of Sight Certificate) and A2 CofC (Certificate of Competency). I look forward to offering my services as a competent drone pilot and know that I have the full backing of Flyby Technology to help me with any difficult planning operations or to help me gain permissions that take that extra bit of experience to acquire.
Thank you all at Flyby! I’m proud to be part of the family.
